Vanacore Media continued its collaboration with Buffalo’s African drum and dance ensemble Ade Jembe Fola, led by master percussionist Wale Kasumu, to document a special cultural performance for students at PS 84 ECMC School.
Filmed on February 27 at 9:00 AM, the performance was organized specifically for special needs students, creating an engaging and educational environment where music, rhythm, and movement could be experienced in a powerful and interactive way.
Vanacore Media accompanied the ensemble to the school to capture both behind-the-scenes moments and two full performances presented for the students and staff. Known for their dynamic presentations of traditional West African drumming and dance, Ade Jembe Fola delivered high-energy performances that encouraged audience participation and created a memorable experience for everyone in attendance.
The production documented the event from multiple angles, allowing the final video to capture not only the musical precision of the drummers but also the expressive choreography of the dancers and the enthusiastic reactions from the students, eventually shifting into bringing them on stage. The goal of the video was to preserve the cultural and educational impact of the performance while presenting it through a cinematic perspective.
The video was directed by Giovanni Vanacore, with photography by Ally Lauber. For this production, Jacob Matias shifted into a primary filming role, serving as Video Camera 1 and capturing many of the core performance shots throughout the event.
Following earlier productions featuring Ade Jembe Fola at City Honors School and KeyBank Center, this event continues the ongoing effort by Vanacore Media to document the group’s performances and cultural outreach across the Buffalo community.
The final video from the PS 84 performance has now been completed and will be released on YouTube in the coming weeks, giving viewers a chance to experience the powerful rhythms, vibrant dance, and meaningful community engagement that define Ade Jembe Fola’s work.
